The way most of your modern society is built, it is far easier to have a sedentary lifestyle than to be active. Industrialized societies tend to be sedentary to the extreme.
That is detrimental to your health. Of course, you have known that for a very long time. One element you may be unaware of is how the emerging energies are making more vital than ever for you to move.
Now for this particular "situation", we are simply talking about moving, not about exercise per se. Well, not the exercise you are used to. That will be touched upon a little later.
Some of you may already feel a need to move, and have been feeling so for at least a few weeks, if not more. Getting the strong urge to sway this way or that way, to slither like the snake, to wave your arms like tree branches blowing in the wind, to execute gentle, free-flowing movements...
Those of you who are in tune with your body will have simply "obeyed", given into the impulses to move. The durations of the movements vary. Sometimes your eyes close and shift in their sockets - that is natural, "normal".
If you let yourself go, you should feel a sense of release, of peace, of liberation once the movements cease.
However, if you resist (or have been resisting), your body will most likely stiffen up and tension will build. The more you resist, the more generalized, the feeling of unease, of tenseness will become.
You see, the "new" energy floating around needs to circulate a certain way. It is supposed to travel along the spinal column, both starting at the base of the spine going up and through the head, and at the head, flowing down and out the base of the spine. Two separate roads on an newly built energy highway.
If, for whatever reason, the current gets blocked or diverted, it can get stuck in the spinal column creating energy blockages or form painful knots - mostly in the back, a few inches on either side of the spinal column. That constricted flow may also lead to unexplainable migraines or nausea.
Yoga is quite beneficial, so is general stretching, swimming dancing... Any activity or movement that involves the entire body and enhances the flexibility of the spinal column. The spinal column needs to be fluid and free.
Move like a snake, like the flame. Intuitively, without thinking about what you are doing or about using any kind of specific technique. Just go where your body wants to go, let it move as it wishes, as it needs. Now the movements should be gentle. Nothing harsh. Sometimes, it may feel like your body is being adjusted. Please ease into it. Everything should feel comfortable and "freeing". If pain comes, gently shift your movement or position. Always keep your body loose.
The purpose of the exercise if you will is to dissolve any tension or knots.
Move in silence or with music. It can be done standing up, in a type of a dance. It can be done lying down, with your feet up against the wall or on the ground. You can pretend you are a rag doll. Anything goes really. All you are intending to do here is move out any stale energy and to (re)activate the energy flow.
If you feel the idea makes sense, based on how you have been feeling, what you have been experiencing, but you are unsure what to do, how to start, or even feel some resistance - thinking this is rather silly - just loosen up. Get into any comfortable position, as mentioned above, quiet your mind and simply listen to your body, let it guide you. It knows. If you are extremely self-conscious, close the blinds, turn off the lights, just make sure "the coast is clear".
And for those of you who think this is ludicrous, after all, you are a grown-up, you are not five years old anymore! Well, you are right. The thing is, the five year-old that you were knew things you forgot. Truths you unlearned. Back then, you excelled in the art of spontaneity. You were very aware, yet not overly self-conscious. What others thought did not matter, as long as you were having fun or felt joy. You were a lot more open to doing things that felt right, that seemed fun or liberating (even though you have no clue what that meant). In short, you did not need to have a reason for everything that you did.
You did it... just because!
So please, give this "exercise" a chance. In addition to relieve many tensions and discomforts you may have been feeling for a while, it will put you back in touch with a wonderful, innocent, playful part of you that wants to come back into your life.
